SCREVEN and JEKYLL ISLAND, GEORGIA

SCREVEN and JEKYLL ISLAND, GEORGIA

Happy Days Campground in Screven was out in the middle of nowhere. It was a well-planned campground on grassland sprinkled with pines. I was lonely. Three hundred acres of loneliness. BUT the owners, a spry 87 and 90, had stories to tell. The owner had started up Cape Canaveral back in the days of Truman.

Screven, GA was the only place where there was no cell phone signal. My neighbor resorted to climbing up on to the roof to phone his daughter.

The spiders spun their webs with cables. Honestly. Try to drive away in the truck when the web was attached to it? The web would bend the tree before it broke.

Jekyll Island is on the southeast coast of Georgia. It is graced with live oaks draped in Spanish moss. We will spend one month there in late winter. For our American friends, it is the birthplace of your Federal Reserve System.
