THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR

THE UNEXPECTED VISITOR
Rumi, the great poet and traveler, said that we are guest houses. As such we should stand at the door and welcome enthusiastically all who enter.
“Come in, Sorrow!”
“Welcome, Joy!”
“Greed, where have you been? Welcome back!”
The bed and breakfast imagery I understand. I am not sure about the enthusiasm part.
Today a visitor knocked on our door – Cancer. Cathy had surgery last week and a speck was removed. It was so small a speck that some doing the surgery questioned what they were doing. It turns out that the little speck was malignant. More surgery and check ups will follow. Quite soon.
As a consequence our journey has been postponed. In the interim we will see what we can learn from this new visitor.
