Maggie Valley, North Carolina

Maggie Valley, North Carolina

This set of pictures matches On the Road letter number two.
We are nearing the end of our two-week stay in the lovely Maggie Valley.
The leaves on the trees are only beginning to have a touch of the fall color.
Up on the Blue Ridge Parkway, the change is more noticeable.

We hope you enjoy these few pictures. On Oct.4 we move into Tennessee for two weeks. Then we will pass through North Carolina, again, on our way to our final stop in South Carolina.

Why are these mountains called "Smoky"?

Fall 2006 Smoky Mountains

Fall 2006 Smoky Mountains

We left Aurora on Sept. 17 to visit Tennessee, North Carolina and South Carolina.
This is our second trip to the Smoky Mountains where the scenery is well-worth the drive.
We have scheduled our driving so that it is no longer than 250 m/400 k per day. It worked amazingly well because it gave us time to stop and explore areas that we have previously missed: Erie, PA., Flatwoods, WV. and, especially, Bristol, TN.
One highlight of the drive was the new road, Hwy. 26, that runs from near Bristol down to Asheville, NC. Glorious views of sharp-peaked mountains!
